Cosmopolis

“Property is no longer about power, personality and command. It's not about vulgar display or tasteful display. Because it no longer has weight or shape. The only thing that matters is the price you pay. Yourself, Eric, think. What did you buy for your one hundred and four million dollars? Not dozens of rooms, incomparable views, private elevators. Not the rotating bedroom and computerized bed. Not the swimming pool or the shark. Was it air rights? The regulating sensors and software? Not the mirrors that tell you how you feel when you look at yourself in the morning. You paid the money for the number itself. One hundred and four million. This is what you bought. And it's worth it. The number justifies itself.”

from Cosmopolis. I need to find more readings like this, brain-exercise material.

Pusing Pusing

If everyone seems to have a problem with you, then you should sit and think hard why so. Blaming anyone else instead, making new stories along the way wouldn't improve things. gesundheit.

New stuff im working on for 2 days. enjoying it, so its not a strain ;) If only i got more time to chip in some details. I want to expose the ceiling to give it a more rustic and informal atmosphere.

Its basically an annex building next to a heritage building. The main idea was to be in tandem with the heritage building, and at the same time giving it a modern facelift.

Need to work more on my sketches. Getting stiff, my sketch is.

inquest

"we join the inquisition, regardless we're of dark or light, seeking of balance, because of fear. fear of when there is no equilibrium between dark and light. fear of the substance, for people and also for others."
-High Vampire Witezislav-

How does this transpire into politics? Can politicians really thought of the greater goods instead of each own perspectives?

Dieter Ram's 10

1.Good Design Is Innovative : The possibilities for innovation are not, by any means, exhausted. Technological development is always offering new opportunities for innovative design. But innovative design always develops in tandem with innovative technology, and can never be an end in itself.

2.Good Design Makes a Product Useful : A product is bought to be used. It has to satisfy certain criteria, not only functional but also psychological and aesthetic. Good design emphasizes the usefulness of a product while disregarding anything that could possibly detract from it.

3.Good Design Is Aesthetic : The aesthetic quality of a product is integral to its usefulness because products are used every day and have an effect on people and their well-being. Only well-executed objects can be beautiful.

4.Good Design Makes A Product Understandable : It clarifies the product’s structure. Better still, it can make the product clearly express its function by making use of the user’s intuition. At best, it is self-explanatory.

5.Good Design Is Unobtrusive : Products fulfilling a purpose are like tools. They are neither decorative objects nor works of art. Their design should therefore be both neutral and restrained, to leave room for the user’s self-expression.

6.Good Design Is Honest : It does not make a product more innovative, powerful or valuable than it really is. It does not attempt to manipulate the consumer with promises that cannot be kept

7.Good Design Is Long-lasting : It avoids being fashionable and therefore never appears antiquated. Unlike fashionable design, it lasts many years – even in today’s throwaway society.

8.Good Design Is Thorough Down to the Last Detail : Nothing must be arbitrary or left to chance. Care and accuracy in the design process show respect towards the consumer.

9.Good Design Is Environmentally Friendly : Design makes an important contribution to the preservation of the environment. It conserves resources and minimises physical and visual pollution throughout the lifecycle of the product.

10.Good Design Is as Little Design as Possible : Less, but better – because it concentrates on the essential aspects, and the products are not burdened with non-essentials. Back to purity, back to simplicity.

It applies to architecture as well, certainly about design being long-lasting, honest, meticulous, and little intervention as possible. it goes beyond beautiful. thru and thru thinking of how our design should react, and interact, both to humans and built environment.

2012 Reading Project #1

Eat Slay Love / Jesse petersen.

I would say its more towards light readings; obviously taking pun of the Eat.Pray.Love.
easygoing, fast, a lil bit too much feminine side of view, but it was okay.

need serious reading.

2012: 1st entry

meet the new panda

well, it might be late, we're already into the 5th day of 2012.

some little recap, reflection. so, how's 2011 been going on?

we start on architecture; i think it went ok, nothing amazing, and not stale either, though I love some of the projects im working on (scroll the pics below). Some of the work strains (and unprofessional attitude) dent the spirit sometimes, but if you didn't feel the pain, you're not really in the game. hoping to learn more, be better, more patience, and insyaAllah, a better reward accordingly to my efforts.

Next, Ive started on a reading projects; totalled 17 new books and novels so far last year. need to work out on that as well, though I'm a lil bit choosy when it comes to readings.

Favorite (cynism) subject will be weight. I've amassed more weights in the last 3 months when I'm driving more than using the public transport. sigh. so: here's to a more healthy lifestyle this year.

Social life? Ive spend less time with my friends, though we do have white water rafting, karaoke and iftar together. they're married! so there's a new dimension somehow in my social circle

Blogging? I've less space and time to do so. But I'm thinking of smacking a lot more artworks and sketches this year. No promises though.

So that's all to it.till next time.
